Lens Blur

Bokeh is an artistic tool that allows photographers to focus the attention in an image. This typically requires large and often expensive lenses, which notably is something that is absent in day-to-day smartphone photography. However, one can synthesize this effect on imagery with a shallow depth of field by simulating the physics of what would have happened with various lenses.

This is exactly what we have done in Lens Blur for Lightroom. Underneath the hood, this requires a three-dimensional representation of the scene which is what I helped with. Specifically, the underlying technology is based on a paper from Soo Ye Kim on layered depth refinement with mask guidance.
